The Right AC Filter Schedule for the Humid Gulf Coast (It's Not What the Box Says)

Filter packaging says “replace every 90 days.” That's written for a house in Ohio. On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, between our nine-month cooling season, heavy pollen, salt-laden air, and humidity that keeps systems running constantly, that 90-day filter is suffocating your system by day 45.

The Real Gulfport Schedule

• Standard 1-inch filters: every 30 days in cooling season, no exceptions
• Homes with pets or near the beach: every 3-4 weeks
• Thick 4-5 inch media filters: every 3-4 months, checked monthly
• Pollen season (March-May): check every two weeks regardless of filter type

Why It Matters More Here

Your AC is also your dehumidifier. When a clogged filter restricts airflow across the evaporator coil, the coil temperature drops below freezing — and in our humidity, it ices over fast. Picking the Right Filter
